| On 8th June 2000 an association for students and members of staff of the former Thorpe Grammar School was incorporated. The Association's chairman, Ivor Harrowven writes: | |
| Dear Friends Following the recent and most successful reunion of those associated with the former Thorpe Grammar School, a meeting of many of those who had expressed interest in helping in further activities has decided to form the Thorpe Grammar School Association and has asked me to be its Chairman in the initial stages. I consider this a great honour and promise to do all in my power to make the Association work. You will not be surprised that we invited Philip Ball to be our President and are glad that he has accepted the position - clearly there could be no other choice. I would want to express thanks to David Johnson, who not only master-minded the reunion but has also done much work in preparing the ground for this present venture. It is therefore good to report that David has accepted the post of secretary - always a difficult job but I am confident he will have your support. Over the years of the School's existence around 3000 pupils must have attended. Though it may be an impossible task to contact all of them, we shall do our best because we want to bring together - in some ways as yet to be decided - all our former pupils. We shall be pleased to learn the whereabouts of any you may know. Our membership information leaflet is enclosed. What we do, where we meet, whether year groups wish to meet, and many other ideas can be floated - it is intended to be an association for all - so please contact us with any ideas. I look back with happy memories of my time on the staff of what was for me a happy school with much of which to be proud. It was a delight to meet so many of you at the reunion - some I knew well - some were previously shadowy figures through the fumes - some I had never taught - but it was good to meet and we want to go on. My good wishes to you all. Yours sincerely |
